Our FounderDr. Vicki Rackner Helps You Choose Health

Vicki Rackner, MD, former surgeon and founder of The Connection Prescription and The Caregiver Club, has been on all sides of the dire diagnosis: as the patient facing a life-threatening medical condition, as the doctor caring for patients, and as a family caregiver advocating for sick loved ones. She is passionate about offering caregivers the message they are not alone, the reminder they have choices, and the light of hope even on dark days.

Dr. Rackner is a board-certified surgeon and nationally noted expert in the doctor-patient relationship. She has treated tens of thousands of patients, held a clinical faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Medicine and served as an expert witness who reviewed scores of malpractice cases.

“Dr. Vicki”, as she has come to be known, left the operating room to help family caregivers and patients and health care professionals partner more effectively. She’s regular quoted in the national media as well as on caregiving sites, including CNN, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, Reader’s Digest, Bottom Line Health, Woman’s Day, Real Simple and many others. She has been interviewed on over 100 radio shows, including NPR, Martha Stewart Living and Health Talk.

Her latest book Caregiving without Regrets joins her other books, including The Personal Health Journal, and The Biggest Skeleton in Your Doctor’s Closet. Dr. Rackner co-authored Chicken Soup for the Soul Healthy Living Series: Heart Disease and contributed a compelling story to Chicken Soup for the Soul Healthy Living Series: Breast Cancer. She contributed the chapter about the doctor-patient collaboration to the newly released academic text Collaboration Across the Disciplines in Health Care.

Dr. Vicki’s signature tell-it-like-it-is style, coupled with practical tips about exactly what to do and say, have changed the lives of thousands of caregivers. She donates a portion of the proceeds from her speeches and book sales to some of her favorite nonprofit organizations.

She lives in Seattle with her son, their dog, cats and fish.
